The Phoenix Film Academy will launch in sync with the new school year at Talla Nan Ros in Kingussie on Wed 25 August .                                              The Film academy is an exciting new independant Film Scool for students from 5-18 years of age from across the Highlands - the first school of this kind in the area.                                  Students will have the opportunity to explore their creativity, build their confidence and develop new skills.

Classes & Locations

Classes run every Wednesday at Talla Nan Ros, with ages 5-7 years running from 15.15 - 16.00, followed by the 8-18 classes which will run from 16.00 - 18.00.  Students will be divided into groups of similar age ranges and will take regular classes in topics such as directing, acting for screen, screen writing, camera operation, sound, editing and film appreciation.  Students will also be involved in producing one studio film project and one animation each school year.

At the end of each school year The Film Academy will host a showcase evening to celebrate and share the hard work and achievements of the students.  Family and friends will be invited to join us at this event to share in the celebrations and encourage the students.

Workshop Details

Workshops will be run by Cathey and Kirree with guest workshop leaders being invited to cover specialist topics throughout the term, ensuring all teaching will be of the highest standard, and second to none in the Highland area.  Workshop leaders are all checked by Disclosure Scotland and experienced in working with young people, as well as being professionals in their field.  Phoenix VP will also ensure that all workshops are conducted in line with their usual strict policies on Child Protection and Health and Safety, copies of which are available on request and regularly updated to ensure they meet and exceed the required standards.

The Phoenix team truely believe that participation in structured activities outwith the school environment make young people more adaptable and employable in adult life.  The film production process enables all participants to experience and learn a vast range of transferrable skills which will benefit all participants immediately and in the long term.

Film Academy Summer School

Students will have the option of attending a supplementary week long intensive drama production course during the summer holidays.  During the week participants will work as a team with their fellow students to produce and screen a short film.

All production roles will be taken on by participants in the summer school, giving each student an exciting and enjoyable insight into all facets of the proiduction process.

Summer School will commence summer 2011.  Fees are payable termly in advance.  Classes cost £10 per session for 8-18 years and £4.50 per session for 5-7 years.
